Bass Trombone hasn't a significant solistic repertoire, often confined to orchestral roles. So I decided, on the request of Mascoulisse Quartets member, Stefano Belotti, to compose a concert piece for this instrument. The Fantasia for Bass Trombone and Piano is a combination of Lied-form and Sonata-Form. A sophisticated and intriguing musical path, in which a trombonist could exploit all of the instruments nuances, playing in a comfortable, but wide, range full of articulations. An elegiac theme unfolds his notes through a continuous development of neoromantic memory, with heroic moments, gentle harmonies and lyrical melodies, revealing the potential, so underdeveloped, of this magnificent instrument.
